Letter to Citizens – Land Code

Back to News

Hiawatha First Nation Citizens,

Hiawatha First Nation (HFN) has been developing our community Land Code. The HFN Land Code has been developed in keeping with the Framework Agreement on First Nations Land Management (Framework Agreement), which is a government-to-government agreement with Canada that allows First Nations to resume and exercise their own jurisdiction, control and decision making over their lands and resources.

The Land Code has been drafted by a Land Code Development Committee which is made up of citizens of Hiawatha First Nation.

We are now pleased to present the draft Land Code to the community, and are requesting your input. The draft Land Code has been posted to the Member Login section of the website.

We encourage you to review the draft Land Code and bring forward any questions or concerns you may have to the Land Code Dinner on November 12, 2019 at 5:30pm in Lower Hall. You can also contact Kelly Dickinson at 705-295-7119 or our Lands Advisory Board (LAB) Technician, Heather Sawdon, at or 705-918-7840.

Regards,

Wanda McGonigle

Lands Officer
